On Saturday, July 17th, participants of the N.E.O. Voice Festival will premiere Passions, an evening length work created by 15 composers from around the world writing specifically for the festival’s ensemble of choristers and uniquely talented soloists. Composers have created music that stretches the voices in the festival ensemble to create textures and timbres less-often heard in vocal music including: overtone singing, ingressive singing, stylistic timbral contrast often in the same piece and/or layered (think RnB, Choral, and Opera simultaneously), and stylizations from the composer’s own backgrounds. The cohesive work will be presented as a one-hour oratorio, contributing to this iconic repertoire form.
