Flute Lessons

That still wasn't enough, though, so I became a contemporary music specialist on flute, piccolo, and low flutes; I premiered multiple dozens of new works written for flute solo, flute with chamber ensemble, flute with new music ensemble, and even flute with lamp! I can teach you the most fun extended techniques, the sight-reading tips that let me read down a film score at-tempo live in the booth and nail nested quintuplets-inside-triplets alike, and above all, how to have a meaningful, fulfilling, and creative life with the flute, starting with classical training and beyond.

As a teacher, I don't just bring you my knowledge of the classical methods and access to a plethora of books and flute teaching resources; I also draw from my experience as a working musician. I knew early on that just aiming for the orchestral pipeline after college wasn't for me; I wanted to do so much with music and with flute, and so I studied jazz and film scores and recording technique, which ended up letting me play on the soundtracks to so many student films (and quite a few scoring professors' films!!) while in my undergrad.

I also really, really love teaching flute. Since as a child I was self-taught until about a year before my college auditions, I learned so many different approaches to teach core concepts from all the books I read, studies I played, and masterclasses I watched.

I love playing flute. I've been at it for well over half of my life now, ever since I started playing in the fourth grade beginning band in Sacramento, California. For me, there is nothing in the world like the feeling of playing, and connecting to your breath and your music, and feeling so immortally alive. I felt that feeling the first time I got the chance to play along with my local high school's band, and I have been chasing that feeling, in everything I do, ever since.
